And here's another great Step 2 CS Visa Experience Write up and tips by another generous reader:

"hello guys..
just wanted to share my step 2cs visa experience with u people..at the Mumbai consulate..
first things first...always take the visa date asap...as the dates are opened just a month or so before the next month..(eg. u see dates for may in the month of April)
and be ready with your HDFC bank receipt and other necessary documents and info needed for the filling of forms DS-156 n 157..visa class B1/B2
keep hunting for the dates on the consulate website..at least twice or thrice daily..
as soon as u see the date u want, jump n fill the online applictaion form n take the date..

once that is done you have to be prepared for the documents needed for the visa interview
i would list some of the imp ones..
1.step 2 cs scheduling permit, exam appointment confirmation letter
2. letter from ECFMG..stating that the said candidate is scheduled for the CS test in USA
3.financial documents..bank solvency letter, bank a/c statements,n other documents stating and valuing your immobile property.
4. I-134..financial letter of support if someone (your relative) is upporting you for ur visit
5.income tax returns for the past 3 yrs( your own if ur working or the person who is supporting u..mother /father)
6.employment letter from ur current employer and also a "leave" letter from the same employer stating u have been granted leave for appearing in the Cs exam
7.health/travel/medical insurance documents...or at least the documents stating various plans for the same..(eg.monthly premium n things covered)..all sham n show :))
8.degree certificate, registration certificate n mark sheets for all the years.

now the actual interview..
having told u all to take all d above documents n other things i wasnt asked for even a "single" document!!
all they want from u is assurance that u would return back..i.e strong ties back here..be it job, parents n other things..prove it and then you are through

Be confident..look into their eye..make your statements in advance(n practice them)..ann stick to them...dont beg or plead !

all d best !"

Thanks Kaustubh !

Thanks Rafik, for your valuable input !

dear Kaustabh/ DigitalDoc,

This is very urgent! My CS Visa(B1/B2)INTERVIEW is on May 2. I ve a confirmed appointment at the Kolkata Consulate. I am confused whether writing 1 week in DS-156 form ("how long do u intend to stay at USA?")is OK or I should write 1 yr? I intend to go this time for only 1 week and come back & go in Aug-Sep again for I/V & observership. I 've return Air-Tickets & Hotel booked for 1week too.

Blogger Digitaldoc, MD said ... (4:27 PM) :

Since you are applying for the CS visa, it will be hard explaining what you will be doing for a that long a time, if the exam is jst for day. I am thinking 1 month is good idea - or even 2 weeks, you might have a good chance of getting a multiple-entry visa that way too.

To cover the month's activities, i f the visa officer asks you, you can you say you will be studying and practicing for the exam with guidance from friends there, and might need to take it again immediately if you do not make it the first time.

Putting it as 1 year is certainly not advisable. Lets wait for kaustubh's input too

Blogger kaustubh said ... (3:21 PM) :

yea i agree with digitaldoc on this..u shd mention 2 weeks or 3 weeks of stay on DS 156..u have to convince them why u r going there..and puting 1 yr stay wud not be advised, as u cannot have reasonable explanation for such a long stay...and dont worry abt the the duration of ur visa..these days evry1 gets 10 yr multiple from india..at least i ve known 5-6 ppl who have got it..so be as honest as u can ...getting visa for CS is more imp..the duartion of it is luck...the odds are tht u wud get a 10 yr visa..if not tht at least u wud have 6 mths visa for ur CS..have faith and go for ur visa appointment wid full confidence :-)..gud luck to u!

Thanks again Kaustubh !

Thnx digidoc for info. I m from Mumbai. Is it ok if i tell, i m going to take both 2 cs and step3 in one visit to visa officers.

Blogger Digitaldoc, MD said ... (9:49 AM) :

If I were going with the Step 2 CS letter, I would rather speak only about the CS :-)

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (8:31 PM) :

THNX Digitaldoc.I m seriouly considering taking both 2cs and step 3 in one visit.whats ur opinion? Are there any fallacies in it?

Blogger Digitaldoc, MD said ... (7:20 PM) :

That should be workable - the only possible fallacy being that you need to wait until the ECFMG Certificate arrives before you can register to take the Step 3 test. So the problem could be the time you gotta wait until that happens, Step 2 CS results may take 10-12 weeks, and then another 2 weeks for the Certificate to arrive ...time your visit accordingly
