STEP 2 CS VISA EXPERIENCES SERIES

EXPERIENCE V: Region: Calcutta (India)

Nice name Tonya ;-) One good turn deserves another - thanks to user contributions, people who were helped come back to share more. Thanks to Tonya this time about her Visa experience, who had an equally anxious cab-driver bumping into cars to help her reach on time..he he

"Dear Digitaldoc,

Here is my CS Visa Interview experience at the Kolkata (Calcutta) Consulate General on 2 May, 2007.

I went there right on the nick of time (my Taxi bumped into a car after crawling through the terrible Calcutta traffic, which really scared me, thinking what else lay in front of me!!!!)...Again once I went inside, there was some problem with my photo (I was without my specs (Glasses) , so they asked me to go & get another photo with my specs on..!). But apart from that, there was no other problem. The interview itself was was sooooooooooo cool :) No questions asked, no detective work by the Visa Office, & he just checked my DS-156/157... and asked how much I get paid as a Doctor in Kolkata, for the kind of work I do...I answered honestly & he seemed happy....and that was it: He gave me a 1 year Multiple Entry Visa (I had mentioned "1 week stay" for CS Exam..) & said, "Good Luck for your test, Enjoy!"

My Documents:
  • Cover Letter (Addressed to Visa Officer)
  • Appointment Letter
  • HDFC bank Receipt
  • Photo
  • Financial statements
  • Employment Letter from my Hospital+ pay slip of salary
  • ECFMG visa letter
  • Return Air-Tickets
  • Hotel booking Receipt
  • Affidavit by my father ( since he is co-sponsoring me)

Thank you again digitaldoc for the beautiful blog & ur selfless work.
God Bless You.
Cheers "

Thanks Tonya ! ..

hey... digidoc... i dont agree with the DOCUMENTS which Tonya took for the visa interview... u cant get a return air ticket without US visa... and having a return ticket is not at all necessary to get a visa...
becos, i have got 10yrs multiple entry visa without having any return ticket for the interview..

hey digitaldoc!
Just a lil mistake: The Name is Tona(hope that doesn't make it a less nice of a name ;) )Not that I mind, cuz the name is secondary. Thx and please keep up the good work.

Congratulations Priyanka! And Yes, u may be right that a return Air-Ticket is not necessary. But I BOOKED Air-India(NOT BOUGHT),and just made a DUMMY itinerary to show my INTENTION TO RETURN in 1 week, along with Hotel Booking Receipt(which I bought on-line,taking the risk that I MIGHT ve to cancel the hotel booking if denied a VISA!)Pl be adviced that it was an entirely personal decision to prove my point, and there aint a "Rule" for what documents "Must" or "Must Not" be submitted.

Hope this Helps.

Priyanka,
other reasons for booking the air-tickets much in advance:

1) during June-Sep its rush time for travel to places like LA & it is highly likely u wont get economy tickets if u book ur tickets too close to ur date of travel(thats what happened to one of my friends who ended up spending 20k EXTRA for a higher class:(
2) I saved 10k on Air-Fare because I booked early.
3) Pl ignore the above if you are Super-Rich.

Cheers.
