Yet another spectacular and graphic Step 2 CS Visa interview experience contributed by a very delighted Dr. Nagdeep from India who "came out jumping with joy ;-)"
Many thanks to him and Here goes:
"Hello everyone!
First of all, I am very very thankful to you an to al the members of this community, who have posted their visa experiences, and tips, without which, my visa interview wouldn't have been a success. Hmmm..
Though the list of documents to be carried had been posted at least a hundred times, I would just like to add (in fact remove) a few things!!
I have seen people emphasizing a lot on "Cover Letter" in some of the threads…Some people went on to the extent of posting sample cover letters too! First of all, Cover letter = NOT REQUIRED. The friendly VFS guys (who keep loitering around with their quasi artificial smiles) will anyway remove it, and tell you its (non)importance.
Next, I have seen some people strongly suggesting that we carry our "Return Air Ticket" confirmation along with us, to show it to the visa officer (indicating how much planned and committed we are in pursuing the American dream) But it was clearly mentioned on a sticker at the embassy notice board "PLEASE DO NOT SHOW US ANY AIRLINE CONFIRMATION/BOOKING BEFORE YOUR VISA IS ISSUED"
So I believe, showing a "ticket" might just indicate desperation (Which of course in most cases is true) and ruin our chances of a successful interview…
I had scheduled my interview on 18th of Jan, at Delhi Consulate. I had all the documents ready by around 12th itself, so I had ample time to go through each and every post in this forum!!
After an eventful and a very tiring journey (one flight cancelled, the other delayed by 4 hours), I finally landed at 1030 pm on 17th!! Otherwise I almost assumed I might be one of those NO SHOW APPLICANTS at the interview!! (So guys, either don't trust Spice Jet/Go Air.. Or plan your trip at least 24 hours in advance of your interview)
My interview was scheduled at 10:15 AM (and assuming everyone is sincere like me) I joined the line just 15 minutes prior to that (as mentioned)!! I then realized that everyone standing ahead of me had their appointments either at 1130 and some people even 12 pm!! So the moral of the story is – It doesn't matter what time it is!!! Just go and join the line!!
Once inside, I was very confused and tensed because initially I mistook the finger printing guys for visa officers (but then immediately saw people joining another line after finger printing and felt better) A lot had been said about "Lady VOs" being merciless and stingy when it comes to issuing visas. May be all that is true I could see three VOs, of which one was a lady…and hardly anyone returned back smiling from that counter..Luckily I didn't have to face her. My interview began at around 11 AM…The interviewer was a cool guy, with a genuine smile!!
It went on like this:
ME: Good morning Officer! How are you?
VO: I'm fine!! Thank you!!
(He then kept scrolling something on his monitor for about half minute)
VO: Oh you are a doctor? So you wanna take the Clinical skills exam?
ME: Yes sir, exactly.
VO: So did you take your STEP 1 exam?
ME: Yes sir!!
VO: Whats your score in that?
ME: 89
VO: can I see your score card please?
ME: Sure!! Here it is.
(He actually scrutinized it for a while)
VO: Did you print it out yourself?
ME: Yes sir.
VO: Then how do I believe that its real?
ME: Sir these days, ECFMG has stopped sending score cards by post and everyone receives it online only… You can see my ECFMG ID on that score card, and il give you my password, you may check it out yourself…you will find the same thing in their website…
VO: Let me check. (And he got up from his seat, and spoke something to a guy sitting behind him. Then he made a copy of my score card and put it along with the passport) and started writing something on my DS forms…
And then he asked, "Who will sponsor your trip?"
ME: My Parents sir
VO: Oh….Do you have any siblings?
ME: No sir. Am the only child
VO: Smiled and said, your visa has been approvedJ and your passport will be couriered to you!! And good luck for your step 2!!
I came out jumping with joy ;-) When my passport arrived, I was overjoyed to see that I got a ten year multiple entry Visa J
I was strongly advised to go for visa only after step 2, especially because of my bad step 1 score….But I had some kind of strange feeling, that this is the right time and that I would definitely get my visa
I am thankful to God for this and I'm once again thankful to all the people who have posted their experiences"
And we all wish Dr. Gupta a successful Step 2 CS :-) Thanks again

Well, actually,
It doesnt really depend upon the CS date we show in the DS form..
Our visa validity (The date after which we can legally enter US) starts from the next day of your interview, and lasts, till a minimum of 3 months, upto a max ten years.

Yes you can.
Technically, not earlier than 120 days (Actually thats for F1 Visas!! I assume same applies even for CS!!) I request Seniors to please throw some light on that.
