Region: Mumbai (India) : EXPERIENCE VIII

Published with Permission from:

Ayaaz Multani Gupta, MD

Experience Date: Feb 2008

Thanks to the continued warmth of readers willing to share and help, CSprotocol blog is stacking up loads of good karma and hopefully some of it rubs on to me too ;-)

Here's a cool experience writeup by Dr. Ayaaz:

My interview time was 9:15 am at Mumbai.I reached there at 9 a.m and had to stand in a very long queue of people with interview time of 9:15.There was another queue for people with time of 9:30. They allowed only plastic bags inside in which i had put my file of documents.I had to keep the handbag outside. They were not allowing nontransparent bags.

I was dressed in blazer with tie,and my mom was commenting that why on earth did i go for the blazer when no one else in the queue was wearing it.

I went through the security check at 10 a.m to go inside.

I tried to walk inside with confidence and slight chin up position.

I went inside when my number was called:

Me: (Smilingly)Good morning officer

American officer: Gulaabi slip?(a pink slip was given along with a piece of wood in the 1st queue after i went inside)

Me: Oh!, u know Hindi too

He:(laughingly)No no, i only know this word

He: Whats your age?

Me: 27

He: 37?

Me: No - 27

He: R u married?

Me: No, i m single

He:Do u have any relatives in u.s?

Me:No,I will b the first 1 to go.

He: what do u do?

Me: I m a doctor

He: what kind of doctor?

Me: I m a general doctor and i m going to atlanta for my cs exam, after which i will b eligible to do my specialization in u.s.I have cleared step-1 and step-2.

He: Whats ur annual income?

Me: My combined annual income of me and my mom is 5.5 lakhs

He: No,your income?

Me: 21000 per month( i said it in months as i have joined job recently before few months and i didn't filed the return)

All my expenses will be borne by the hospital

He: O.k,u r granted visa.Ur passport will reach ur home

Me: How much?

He: 10 yrs multiple entry

Me: Thank you.

He didn't even look at my documents, which i had prepared with a lot of pain.

The documents list:

The passport and the forms were taken inside at the fingerprinting counter

Other than the passport,DS-157 form, there were

-visa fee receipt

-Visa recommendation letter from ecfmg

-CS Exam appointment letter

-CS scheduling permit

-step-1 and step-2 score report

-All my MBBS certificate(mark sheets,internship completion,degree certificate )

-Certificate of job letter

-govt salary slip of month of February (i joined govt job on 1st feb,and before that i had worked for 2 months in a trust hospital which were paying me peanuts)

-Letter of sponsorship from the trust hospital where i had worked before, stating that all my expenses will b borne by the hospital till i get into a specialization program in u.s.

-Audit report of last 3 years of the hospital

That report included everything about the assets of hospital in crores and expenses and specifically that they had given 92 lakhs in charity to poor patients last year, and how much of donations they receive each year.

-My mom's job letter

-her last 3 yrs income tax returns

-Property valuation certificate

-govt bonds and mutual funds

-GPF balance

-PPF passbook

-all the banks passbooks(including post-office fixed)
(there was not much balance in 6 passbooks, but he did not ask for it)

Dr. Ayaaz also shared the Sponsorship Letter from his hospital, which I shall put up soon on a separate post.

Congratulations and Thanks to Dr. Ayaaz for sharing all those details, and good luck to him !
